HPSCoach Implementation guide
Sports coaches play a key role in participants’ sports experiences and can positively influence their social, mental, and physical health. Nevertheless, sports coaches are often volunteers and may benefit from knowledge and support regarding the fostering of their sports participants’ health and well-being, beyond the technical and tactical aspects of sport. The Health Promoting Sports Coach implementation guide provides practical advice to coaches on how to integrate health promotion into their coaching. This tool is seperated into three sections: 1) theoretical background, 2) a practical checklist for coaches to promote health and 3) long-term strategies to implement health promotion within coaching. This practical guide helps coaches to implement health promotion comprehensively, through their actions and relationships with sports participants and other stakeholders throughout the sports club setting.
Coaches’ advice to promote health
In a study run by the project partners, coaches offered advice on how to promote health in daily coaching activities through an open question, by working on their vision, planning and behaviour in the field. It is important to note that answers reflect coaches’ individual differences; each coach is unique, and some advice may work for some coaches, but not for others.
